Steve Verbit

Steve Verbit
Associate
Head Coach -
Princeton University

Steve Verbit coached his 25th season at Princeton in 2009, the last 15 of which he has spent as defensive coordinator. Verbit also coaches the defensive line.

Princeton senior defensive back J.J. Artis was named to the All-ECAC Division I-AA first team. Artis was a unanimous first-team All-Ivy selection after a dominant season at cornerback and senior defensive back Tim Strickland was also a first-team All-Ivy selection.

In 2003, Princeton had the No. 2 total defense in the Ivy League, including the No. 1 pass defense. Before the 2005 season, Verbit helped engineer a change to a 3-4 defense to better utilize the depth of linebackers on the roster. He also developed a rotation of defensive linemen.

Prior to coming to Princeton, Verbit coached at the University of Delaware for six seasons. He helped guide the Blue Hens to the Division II national championship in 1979. Verbit is a Delaware graduate, having received his
bachelor’s degree in physical education in 1977, and his master’s degree in exercise physiology from Delaware in 1980. Verbit also is the director of the Tiger Football Camps in the Princeton area
